Why yarn weight matters:

Different yarn weights create completely different results in your projects.

The yarn you choose affects:

  • how thick your project will be
  • how quickly it works up
  • the texture
  • the stitch definition
  • and even the final size

That’s why patterns recommend specific yarn weights and needle or hook sizes.

Where to find yarn weight on a yarn label:

Look on your yarn label for:

A small ball of yarn symbol with a number inside

That number tells you the yarn weight category.

Why matching yarn weight matters:

Using the wrong yarn weight can completely change your finished project.
